Leaf bashing by Habs fans?

I understand why Ottawa Senators fan's bash the Leafs, it makes perfect sense. All those years of playoff heartbreak, against a smug foe who always has the answer to Daniel Alfredsson (Sp) and his complacent play in the post season. I also understand why Buffalo Sabres fans hate the Leafs, being very much their poor cousin in the Golden Horseshoe.

But, I really do not understand Montreal fans. They lost the game on Saturday night (in which was a crappy badly played game) , and suddenly they want death to Toronto! Starting New York Islander's fan clubs on facebook!! Did they forget the last 40 years? What is wrong with you people? You have won 10 cups since 67' and we have won 0. Get over yourselves please! Don't play the original six rivalry, it ended 40 years ago.

In my lifetime, Toronto has never had a playoff series against Montreal, and for the most part of my life Toronto was in the Western Conference. Since we rejoined the East, we destroyed Ottawa 4 times, and lost to Buffalo in the conference final in 1999. All which pushed mutual hatred between those respective franchises to healthy levels.

So, it makes perfect sense to me for, Ottawa fans to hate the Leafs with a passion, along with the Sabre fans who are subjected to playing their home games in Buffalo out cheered by the Legions of Leaf Nation invading HSBC Arena.

But I really don't understand in my day and age, why habs fans have to really get their hate on. They must really miss the Quebec Nordiques, or they have given up hating Ottawa because they haven't had the opportunity to beat them in the playoffs. Cheering for the New York Islanders, its so juvenile. Next time, please start counting all those Stanley Cup's before you start WHINING about the Leafs.

Also remember, you are #3 to us, we tend to take it a lot more seriously when we beat Ottawa and Buffalo (which in the new NHL is not very often) . See you on the golf course.

Comes down to why the majority of Canadians hate Toronto. no real reason, some of us just do. This extends to hockey. The original six rivalry has nothing really to do with it all... at least I don't think so. Boston-Montreal.. now there's an old school rivalry, dating back to Richard... but TO... we hate you because you're TO...that's it.

Also, in the world of hockey, everything is about Toronto. Take Don Cherry, Bob Cole, Harry Neil from CBC, they're paid by CBC, they broadcast whatever game, but you can tell they favor Toronto to everyone else. Toronto this, Toronto that...it's like Toronto is the center of hockey...to the point of a 24h Leafs only television channel

Cherry said (Saturday) that the fact that the Devils decided to rest Brodeur on the last game of the season, that it wasn't fair to Toronto.. I mean who gives a hoot. If you have to rely on another team's loss to make the series, maybe you shouldn't be in the series to begin with.

Either way, some hockey fans just get tired of hearing about the Leafs, and how everything seems to revolves around them...

See you on the golf courses...

Given the proportion of federal taxes Torontonians pay I'd say we're entitled to a little special treatment from CBC.

Ummm. OK. No Habs fan in our fair city can stomach the Leafs and their 'Leaf Nation' crap. This is nothing new. Whereas I've known Habs fans to rally behind other Canadian teams i.e. the Sens and the Flames, no Habs fan worth their tricolor would ever lend their support to the hated Leafs. It's just not done.

And the argument about Torontonians paying more taxes, thus 'expecting' special treatment from the CBC. Bullshit. A few years ago, the CBC made the idiotic decision to cut English language Habs coverage from HNIC. Now Habs fans can either watch the Leafs in English on Saturday night or they can pay a premium to get RDS. As far as I'm concerned, Don Cherry can finally shut his yap and mind his business. Marty Brodeur is under no obligation to help the stinking Leafs. And has Don forgotten where the goalie hails from? What a joke. Retire Cherry NOW.

We deserved to lose. There some rotten exchanges made during the year, like the Ribeiro-Niinimaa, causing player like Kovalev to become useless tools...but heck, that was a decision that Gainey will have to live with...i wouldn't be surprised to see Kovalev go...

cheers to you Sinestra! Not only that CBC cut the Habs, but so did Radio-Canada...so unless you have RDS, or Habs are playing Ottawa or Toronto..you don't see habs on TV locally anymore...

Harry Neale is the Leafs colour commentator in regional broadcasts, he does live in Buffalo though.

Its not my fault CBC decided to go with a ratings winner. Before the "crap New NHL" started, Toronto was a powerhouse, spending their way to at least the second round of the playoffs. This new crap league allows teams where there isn't any real hockey fans to compete with MLSE and their billions.

Don Cherry is by far the most popular leaf fan in Canada. That greatest Canadian thing, he did pretty well in that!

At least we still have the Raptors, Toronto FC, and the Toronto Blue Jays!

2007 - Atlantic Division Champions has a nice ring to it, I'm getting my Rap's playoff tickets as soon as they come out!
