My Open Letter to Liberal Party of Canada and its Membership

To whom it may Concern;

My name is Jamie Callingham, and I write Confessions of a Liberal Mind, the blog. I am also the Policy Chair, for the Pickering-Scarborough East Federal Liberal Association. I am writing this as I feel we need to keep Stephane on as leader. The party needs stability right now. We don't need an expensive leadership race that will bankrupt the Party. The knives may be out, but this is a good time to rid the party of the lazy people resting on their laurels, and who are 20 years behind the time.

What the party really needs is to get rid of all the lazy people at the top, from the campaign chair, who directed a disastrous campaign that lacked any real war room, and who's marketing and messaging were sub par.

If this is the best Harper can do on his not a leader position, good luck to him next time. We must remember not to make any rash decisions that will hurt the party in the long run, for people who are only Liberals to support certain factions and individuals in the party. We need to support the Liberal party as a whole.

These people do not have our best interest at heart, and that is why I feel that Stephane must continue to be at the helm of the party, looking our for us Liberals who are here regardless of who is a leadership contender. I hope you pass this message on to the leader, and the message I am conveying from the people out in the grassroots.

Yours in Liberalism
-Jamie Callingham

Very well said. I too hope Dion remains as leader. So do many others. A Facebook group has been created called "Liberals (and others) Opposed to Stephane Dion's Removal as Leader". Here's the link:

There is also a petition--Stephane Dion is a Leader--for people to sign. Here's the link for that:

I wish I could share the same sentiment, but I can't. There would be far too much dissent, and although I agree there are much greater systemic issues that need to be addressed, I just do not believe he's the right man for the job.

Just one guy's point of view, and anyhow, it may all just well be a a moot point by this time tomorrow.

I disagree. Right now the whole story about the Lib party is leadership and it will dog Mr. Dion until he addresses it. We cannot ignore what has happened, the Libs had a disastrous campaign and while it may not be all Mr. Dion's fault, he had a tremendous part to play in it. We must not forget the continuous polling numbers that we have seen specifically about the leaders as individuals, it has been appalling.

Sticking with a dud just to save money is the wrong approach, if we are unsuccessful in the next election then we have just delayed the process and given the Cons 2-4 years more life than we have to. If we change horses now we get that ugly first year out of the way early and then can start to build and hold momentum.

That said, I would like to see Dion call a leadership race and run in it himself, that leaves him as an option on the table and will quell all dissent if he can win 2 in a row.

I'm going to have to disagree with you Jamie. I think Mark M is a terrific guy and I would definately have him on my campaign - if I had a campaign - which I don't.

He's actually way smarter than I am, and I'm smarter than you are; so I say he's smarter than both of us.

Hope you're well. How's the teaching going?

I was referring to a different person. One who sits in the red chamber Bowie.

Acid Reflux, I agree there will be a lot of dissent. They try to corner Dion by taking the party hostage. They claim they would note vote with Dion in Parliament. So they are going to stage a coup and vote with Harper? I say let them. They can even cross the floor and give Harper a four year of majority. The voter will pass the judgment after four years. We should not be bullied into handing these whispering Judas the power just because they threaten to betray their party and vote with Harper.

Dean, part of the disorganized campaign has to do with "senior" Liberals who instead of helping, held back and instead keep whispering to the media. They want Dion to fail so that they can have this circus that they are having right now.

the whole bunch running this party are useless....what about that stupid mckinnon guy grinning his face off over on ctv....and the other jerk strategist named don something or other...there were no ads showing dead people from listeriosis ...no ads at all showing much...I know I am an old person but that bumch need to be replaced....The conservatives and Jack had a deal...In my riding a good member lost his seat because half of the ndp voted conservative and that was the other way around in a riding where the ndp were winning..they won because of the liberal vote...i.e. garth....smarten liberal party...I love Mr.Dions way but I dont think 'it' can win against a bunch of crooks...we need a hardnosed street fighter like Chretien and that might be Tobin....'Goody too shoes' wont work.

The Liberal Party has massive problems. The very worst thing that ever happened to the Liberal Party was its "Scary Steven" campaign.

The party has become a safe haven for regional bigots and "harper haters". Meanwhile there isn't a single galvinizing platform the Liberals have.

Defict Fighters? Well the Liberals did kill the deficit but they did it first by wiping out all infrastructure spending.

Since then, the Liberals havent had one single idea about the country.

Where are those Liberals that can get over Harper? Where are the nation builders instead of the Alberta beaters?
